In 2013 werd de Multidisciplinaire Richtlijn Werk-Privé Balans gepubliceerd. Work life balance werd hiermee een erkend belangrijk onderwerp. Belangrijk voor iedereen die werkt. Deze publicatie blijft relevant. Beter zelfs, de richtlijn Werk-privébalans werd in 2023 herzien en blijft voor 2024 en volgende jaren belangrijk.

Een goede balans tussen werk en privé is erg belangrijk. Verstoring van die balans kan er bijvoorbeeld voor zorgen dat mensen minder efficiënt en productief zijn, of meer irritaties en ruzies hebben. Op het werk en thuis. Werkenden met een verstoorde werk-privébalans kunnen klachten krijgen die weer tot ziekte en uitval kunnen leiden.

Veel ontwikkelingen kwamen de afgelopen jaren in een stroomversnelling, van thuiswerken en mantelzorg tot de huidige krapte op de arbeidsmarkt. Die ontwikkelingen hebben ook invloed op de werk-privébalans. Daarom werd de richtlijn uit 2013 herzien.

Onbalans tussen werk en privé leidt tot uitval, tot ziekteverzuim, tot burn-out. Het werk heeft invloed thuis en privé heeft invloed op werk. In de praktijk van Priorities en work life balance specialisatie sinds 2004 is een goede balans tussen werk en privé belangrijk voor preventie van stress, burn-out en ziekteverzuim.

Multidisciplinaire expertise over goede werk-privébalans

‘Multidisciplinair’ is de richtlijn in die zin dat Nederlandse Vereniging van Arbeids & Bedrijfsgeneeskunde (NVAB), Beroepsvereniging voor Arbeids- en Organisatiedeskundigen (BAenO), Nederlandse Vereniging van Arbeidsdeskundigen (NVvA) en Nederlandse Vereniging van Veiligheidsdeskundigen (NVVK) deze richtlijn ontwikkelden.

De richtlijn heeft actuele aanbevelingen voor het handelen van de vier kerndeskundigen: bedrijfsarts, arbeids- en organisatiedeskundige, veiligheidskundige en arbeidshygiënist.

Herziene Multidisciplinaire Preventieve Richtlijn Werk-Privébalans

In de herziene richtlijn zijn resultaten uit de recente literatuur zijn verwerkt en er zijn nieuwe onderdelen opgenomen in de richtlijn. In de herziene multidisciplinaire richtlijn vind je onder andere:

  • welke onderwerpen ten aanzien van werk-privébalans in de Risico Inventarisatie & Evaluatie (RI&E) die iedere organisatie hoort te hebben, thuis horen,
  • hoe je werk-privébalans opneemt in het Preventief Medisch Onderzoek of Periodiek Arbeidsgezondheidskundig Onderzoek (PMO/PAGO),
  • welke preventieve organisatorische maatregelen geadviseerd kunnen worden,
  • welke adviezen er zijn voor individuele werkenden,
  • welk advies gegeven kan worden over preventieve maatregelen voor thuiswerkers.

 

Herziene Richtlijn Werk-Privébalans volgens Priorities belangrijk voor individuele werkenden

Zoals gezegd, is de Richtlijn gericht op vier kerndeskundigen. Dit vereist dat je als werkende bij een van de vier terecht komt, om toegang tot advies te krijgen dat gebaseerd is op deze richtlijn.

Echter, niet iedere werkende komt terecht bij een bedrijfsarts, arbeids- of organisatiedeskundige, veiligheidskundige en arbeidshygiënist. Werk je bijvoorbeeld al zelfstandige, zelfstandig ondernemer of ZZP’er of heeft de organisatie waar je werkt beperkte afspraken met bijvoorbeeld de arbodienst voor advies voor werkenden, dan kan het belangrijk zijn om zelf van het bestaan van deze richtlijn te weten.

Ook kan er een drempel zijn om het onderwerp werk-privébalans of work life balance te bespreken op het werk. Dan is het goed om van het bestaan van deze richtlijn te weten. Of te beslissen welke stappen je het beste kunt nemen om een goede balans tussen werk en privé mogelijk te maken of bijvoorbeeld buiten het werk om een deskundige in te schakelen.

 

Burnout, stress of verstoorde balans tussen werk-privé

Variërend van gezinnen met kinderen die opgroeien in chaos, van mensen die uiteenlopende redenen voor hun stress benoemen (regelmatig te herleiden tot werkdruk, privédruk of onbalans werk-privé), tot mensen die uitermate succesvol zijn in hun werk tot ze op een willekeurige dag gewoonweg omvallen. We noemen het vaak ‘burn-out’ en verschaffen het daarmee een legitimiteit.

Voor iedereen kan het belangrijk zijn preventief ook de eigen verantwoordelijkheid of mogelijkheden te onderzoeken voor een goede work life balance, duurzame inzetbaarheid, vitaliteit, werkgeluk en werkplezier.

De eerste juridische uitspraken waarin goed werkgeverschap rond burn-out uitkristalliseert, zijn er al. Want ook de werkgever kan bij mensen met een zware taakbelasting niet meer wijzen naar het vermeend verminderd functionerende individu. Belasting en belastbaarheid, draagkracht en draaglast, daar heeft de werkgever en de werkende ieder een boeiende verantwoordelijkheid in.

 

Werk privébalans bespreken bij een jaargesprek

Er rust nog steeds veel taboe op sommige gevolgen van werk-privé onbalans en er is nog steeds veel onbekendheid. Dat is jammer want gevolgen zijn te verhelpen. Met deze multidisciplinaire richtlijn kunt u wellicht voor uzelf of in aankomende (functionering)gesprekken balans werk-privé gemakkelijker bespreekbaar maken.

 

Priorities en de Multidisciplinaire Preventieve Richtlijn Werk-Privébalans

Werken op basis van de laatste inzichten en richtlijnen is belangrijk voor Priorities. Adviezen, de Workshop Werkdruk en Work Life Balance, het Priorities at Work Programme en de Masterclass Targets en Werkwaarden zijn geactualiseerd met de inzichten uit deze herziene Richtlijn Werk-Privébalans.

Wilt u weten wat ik voor u kan betekenen? Ik coach directeuren, management teamleden, hoogleraren en mensen in vrije beroepen, die in een spagaat zitten tussen declarabele uren werken en hun management-, bestuurs- of acquisitietaken. Cliënten coach ik om veel minder uren te maken door overbodig werk te reduceren, de organisatie van het werk opnieuw in te richten, scherpe prioriteiten te stellen en veel hogere targets te halen.

Met plezier draag ik mijn werkervaring als advocaat, als MT-lid en Chief Human Resources bij aan de expertise van mijn cliënten. Samen geeft dat prachtige resultaten.
